Every role below is free to use right now — no card, no charge, nothing collected. Running SMASHED – SFs as a cloud-based system does mean real server hosting and maintenance costs, so a small per-term fee is coming eventually. We're publishing the planned rates now so there are no surprises later: you'll get advance notice before anything is ever actually charged.
Non-Teaching accounts have two access levels under the same rate: an Officer (a registrar, principal, or designated staff member) gets the full school-wide access described above; a Non-Officer account is scoped to that staff member's own Daily Time Record only.
The original SMASHED – SFs was a free Excel file that ran on your own computer. The Online Edition runs on a live cloud server, with the hosting and maintenance costs that come with keeping it fast and available to every school using it. Once fees begin, they'll be kept as low as possible: a Subject Teacher will pay half of what a Class Adviser pays, reflecting the smaller scope of access. The Learner Portal stays free for students, always — only staff accounts will ever carry a fee.
For now, every account — teaching and non-teaching alike — is completely free while more schools get set up and settle into using the system. Nothing will ever be charged retroactively, and we'll announce it clearly before the rates above take effect.
